Jersey is by nature a cycle-friendly island. It really has it all and not least the stunning and varied scenery that we are all eager to share with you. The island boasts three cycling clubs, four cycle hire shops and many itineraries, some organised and some self-guided.
You can of course travel with your own bike, but with such a range on offer you might be better off renting one. All hire shops are fully equipped, safety conscious and will be delighted to help you chose the most suitable bike for your ability and the routes that you plan to explore. Have a look at Puffin Bike Hire, who deliver the bikes to you for free!
For a few hours, a full day or more, take your time discovering Jersey’s Greens lanes. These are designated and signposted roads where priority is given to cycling, walking and horse-riding. The various itineraries will help you meander through the countryside and along the coast. Beautiful and generous at this time of year, the environment will change around every corner. Before you start, have a look at this brilliant cycling map to familiarize yourself with the local geography.
Many hotels will love to welcome you, your family or your cycling friends. Being centrally positioned in the island will make your journeys easier, so we thought we would recommend Les Charrieres Country Hotel as a brilliant place to stay. The lovely lanes surrounding the hotel are beautifully peaceful and so pretty with daffodils, camellia trees and granite cottages to admire.
Although you are more than welcome to organize your own tour, specialists are at hand to help you make the most of Jersey’s scenery, history and heritage. Contact Pure Adventure for their tours and cycling ideas.
Jersey Town Criterium
Racing through town is popular in France but not easily accessible in the UK. On the 25th May, the 5th annual Jersey Town Criterium will take place in St Helier. Come and experience the skills and speed of some quite intrepid cyclists, motoring their way around the historic town streets!
Tour de France
No, it is not coming to Jersey this year! But the Tour will stop just across the water, in St Malo, Brittany, on the 9th July.
