Where in the world can you enjoy a cup of coffee, a Mexican breakfast, some BBQ fish, a glass of wine, a massive chocolate muffin or a tasty, tangy Thai curry – all whilst watching the Atlantic waves rolling up an expanse of empty sandy beach?
El Tico sits proudly in the centre of St. Ouen’s Bay, an area of sublime natural beauty that Jersey locals are justly proud of. The beach cantina was originally founded as a cafe in 1948, serving sandwiches, coffees and ice creams to hungry surfers, locals and visitors for over 50 years.
The current owners began their long journey to architectural renovation and foodie greatness in 2004, finally opening the doors of the new-look El Tico in July 2009.
El Tico is now a vibrant beach-front cafe and restaurant, serving food and drinks from 9am until late. The extremely friendly cantina staff describe their food as ‘food for friends’, with a focus on fresh flavours, great seafood, hearty meat, zingy curries, sweet temptations and social sharing dishes. The design and surroundings create an emphasis on sharing, with diners sitting on benches at long communal tables. On pleasant days, those lucky enough to get a seat can enjoy the sea wall patio under the sun. The ‘boardroom’, seating up to 14 people, offers one of the best dining party options in Jersey.
