Jersey Bite of the Week: The Watersplash

The Watersplash JerseyAn integral part of Jersey’s surfing history, The Watersplash is a favourite of both locals and visitors; a beach diner, bar and café that perches on the edge of the sea wall, with expansive views of Jersey’s jewel – St. Ouen’s Bay.

Jersey’s surfing culture dates back as far as the early twentieth century, and The Watersplash has been the centre of surfing clubs and competitions since the 1960s. With a menu full of large tasty portions and a very friendly bar, The Watersplash continues to be a favourite of the island’s surfing community.

Laid-Back Dining

The Watersplash menu reflects the laid-back nature of the bar and diner, with families, kids, surfers and visitors all enjoying a healthy mix of big breakfasts, light lunches, seafood, main meat dishes and pastas. For something extra, the diner opens a fish n’ chip bar every evening, and serves a large Sunday roast every week.

Many people return to the ‘Splash for the favourites. From the ‘Surfer’s Breakfast’, piled high with bacon, eggs and sausages, to chicken burgers, cajun chicken salads and the island’s best curly fries, this menu is full to the brim with popular dishes. If you enjoy your seafood, you can’t visit St. Ouen’s Bay without sampling the famous Bunny Chow, a seasonal mixed seafood treat bound in a rich sauce and served inside a hearty cottage loaf – an ideal filler after a few hours in the water!

After a long lunch or an evening meal in the diner or on the terrace, the Watersplash bar is only a few steps away. With regular events and a very relaxed, friendly atmosphere, this is the place to grab a drink, catch up with friends old or new, and watch the waves roll in.

If watching surfers at the Watersplash interests you in an active Jersey holiday, there are plenty of opportunities to try out surfing, kayaking and kite-surfing across the island.
