The autumn is well and truly here – and the change in season is noticeable not least with the wonderful clear light that we always get in the islands at this time of year. Spectacular sunrises and sunsets have generated some stunning photographs.
As autumn arrives, so our business reaches the end of another financial year and provides a good time to review the business performance for the past 12 months and plan for the year ahead. Every year at around this time, the management team take a couple of days out of the office to undertake this review and this year once again proved very productive.
There’s no doubt that the general performance of the tourism industry in the Channel Islands has been disappointing this year, with both main islands recording a drop in staying visitors. Against this backdrop we can be particularly pleased with our own performance as many of the Group’s products have shown improvements over last year.
However, we have to recognise that the economic picture is still fairly gloomy and we will need to continue to be innovative with our products and marketing to keep attracting new customers to our shores. We also need to make sure that our regular clients are well looked after as we know that they provide the bedrock for our business. It therefore gives me huge pleasure to read the feedback we receive from our clients on their return from their break. The satisfaction levels with the Jersey & Guernsey product are very high at an average of 98%. However it is the individual comments we receive about both the hotels our clients have stayed in as well as the service they have received from us whether booking with us online or by telephone, that give me the greatest satisfaction.
So, the theme of our planning meeting was ‘Creativity’ and we have some great new product ideas that we will be developing over the next few months. One such example is the launch yesterday of a new Jersey Michelin Experience which provides the opportunity to enjoy a 3 night break and enjoy a meal in each of the three Michelin star restaurants in the island each night of your stay. A true gourmet’s dream!
