What’s On In April

Easter in JerseyApril this year starts with Easter weekend, celebrating the renewal of life. In Jersey the magic of spring will be on show at the Spring Flower Show and children will be able to hunt for their chocolate eggs at The Big Easter Weekend organised by Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust.

April could also be a good time for you to think of a longer break as there will be so much going on. We have music, open gardens, vintage fairs and of course delicious meals on offer.

An Easter Day out

The choice of where to stay in Jersey is vast but we thought that you might enjoy starting the day with a spectacular sun rise. The Somerville Hotel’s dining room offers plunging views over St Aubin’s beautiful bay, Elizabeth Castle in the distance, and the village’s charming harbour below.

From the hotel you can either walk or take a short bus ride to head north towards the enchanting Jersey Lavender Farm. Although lavender plants will not fully bloom until June, you can tour the farm’s fields and visit the shop and café, featuring the wide range of products that are all manufactured on site. You can also visit the farm’s distillery, where you can learn about all aspects of lavender farming and usage.

April’s longer days are a real blessing, and we have a little secret to share with you on how to make the most of the last evening sunshine. Go to St Ouen’s beach, stretching from north to south across the island’s west coast. Take any stairs down to the sands and tuck yourself by the wall. Facing west with nothing but water between you and America…relax and enjoy, this is a unique spot that we never tire of!

An Evening In

Some rather impressive musical events are taking place all through April.

The Jersey Symphony Orchestra are welcoming guests musicians from the UK to present their Spring Concert. The violonist Fionnuala Hunt is this year’s talented and much awaited soloist. Tickets are on sale now for this classical feast.

The Metropole Hotel in the main town, St Helier, is a familiar place for our jazz lovers. The Jersey Jazz Festival 2013 will be held there from the 26th April. With names as prestigious as Laura Zakian on the agenda it promises to be an exciting few days.

Imagine…

…the taste of scallops straight from the sea and grilled just for you, or a lobster salad accompanied by Jersey Royals. The season of delicious local food is now in full swing.

Come treat yourself!
