Grouville Bay / Long Beach

About Grouville Bay

The Royal Bay of Grouville is a long and wide expanse of soft sand that starts in the shadow of Mont Orgueil Castle at Gorey harbour and runs along the entire south-eastern coast of Jersey, to La Rocque. While more commonly known by locals as ‘Long Beach’ the Bay of Grouville gained its regal title after a visit by Queen Victoria in 1859. So taken was she by the long stretch of sand that she requested to have it renamed.

Bordered on one side by the Royal Jersey Golf Club, while this beach gets busy with families and sun-worshippers on hot days, it never feels at all crowded. In the summer months Gorey water sports centre offers all sorts of beach essentials and sports equipment to rent, from loungers and parasols to paddleboards and kayaks. There’s something to keep everyone busy here.

Refreshments are available from a number of beach-side kiosks and ice cream vans, while those seeking more substantial fayre can find a host of restaurants and pubs, along with convenience shops, around Gorey harbour. Plenty of parking is available opposite Gorey Village at Long Beach, and it is served by regular bus routes 1, 1a and 2.
